HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

It is an obligation of the Australian workplaces to provide a safe environment for all employees, students, visitors and contractors. This first aid course is ideal to meet those obligations. This course covers skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this course; however, participants are expected to have basic Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) skills.

Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites for this course. However you must complete a theory assessment before coming to the class. CS Institute Australia will provide you First Aid Book and a theory assessment a week before the class. You must complete the theory assessment by answering all questions referring to information in the First Aid book.

What to bring

You must bring the First Aid book and completed theory assessment for marking to the class. You must bring a note book and a pen.

Assessments

There are 4 assessments:
• Assessment 1 – Theory test (you complete this before coming to class)
• Assessment 2 – Practical Demonstration
• Assessment 3 – Incident reporting
• Assessment 4 – Theory test

Certification

After successfully completing the course, participants will receive a statement of attainment.

Maintaining currency

To remain current with the Work Health and Safety legislation, the unit HLTAID003 Provide first aid must be updated at least every three years from the date of completion

HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Resuscitation (CPR) on an adult and child manikin
AED terminology
Safety when using an AED
Preparation of a casualty prior to using an AED and practice
